asexual curiosities: Said the Bad Asexual Fairy →
GREAT, YOU’RE ASEXUAL! HAVE YOU FIGURED OUT WHAT ROMANTIC ORIENTATION YOU ARE YET?! WE ALL HAVE ONE! (KINDA). THAT GUY OVER THERE IS HOMOROMANTIC, HE’S ATTRACTED TO PEOPLE OF THE SAME GENDER, BUT NOT IN A SEXUAL WAY! ISN’T THAT GREAT! BUT IT DOESN’T STOP THERE! IF THAT DOESN’T HELP, YOU CAN SPLIT YOUR CONCEPTS OF ATTRACTION DOWN INTO SMALLER AND SMALLER PARTS UNTIL YOU HAVE A REALLY GOOD IDEA...

What I picture when people say "I don't swing that...
acentric:
So, the heterosexuals are on the swingset, swinging back and forth like most people do.
And then there are the homosexuals swinging, like, side to side or something.
The bisexuals are sort of alternating between the two, and the pansexuals are just twisting their swing up in a knot and crashing into everyone like “fuck the police i do what i want”
And then the asexuals are just...

Asexuality Was My Sex Ed →
writingfromfactorx:
“I could, quite frankly, list examples of asexual erasure in this class and other classes I’ve taken that focused on gender and sexuality for quite a while longer. Frankly, from my perspective, sex education outside of asexual spaces is both largely irrelevant to me and has often made it clear to me that my experiences are, from the perspective of the persons constructing...

"Scientifically prove that asexuality exists..."
kazaera:
and why this does not lead to productive dialogue. (I’m bouncing off polisci-prelaw’s recent post and some of the arguments we were having re: educating as well as some of the recent trolls in the asexual tag.)
Lately, I’ve seen some people go “okay, you say you’re asexual? I want to see scientific evidence that asexuality is real before I believe you.” And whenever I see this, I,...

NLGTF Creating Change Panel Turns Down AVEN... →
ace-reporter:
The news article about this is here. I understand that the NLGTF has a political agenda that Asexuals on the whole do not. Nevertheless, the response I received from the NLGTF seems to be a clear case of people who do not want Asexuals in included in their part of the LGBT…

The Difference Between Romantic and Platonic Love:...
outlawroad:
I was just cruising AVEN and looking through yet another thread where people were discussing what separates a romantic relationship from friendship when you take sex out of the equation….. (Because that’s an idiotic question that sexual people often ask when they find out about romantic aces.)
And see, my problem with this is that on the one hand, I do think there can be a...
The Back Pew: Asexuality & Christianity →
I’m going to state up front that in my experience of Christianity, there is in fact little encouragement or acceptance of asexuality. Celibacy, yes. Asexuality, no. Given what is generally known of some of Christianity’s prohibitive notions about sexuality, it is hard at first glance to see how this would be the case. First off, an important point to make is that asexuality doesn’t...

TRANSCRIPT: David Jay interviewed on Savage Love...
nextstepcake:
long post is looooooooong.
Herein is contained the entire transcript of DJ’s interview with Dan Savage in it’s entirety, as transcribed by me. Therefore, it is probably replete with errors.

Charlie the Unicorn, Ace Detective: Good books for... →
This is a post on why On Chesil Beach, which is often brought up in conversations of asexuality in fiction and good books for asexuals to read, is in fact not something asexuals - or, indeed, anyone at all - should read, because it just isn’t good for us as a group.

Just so you folks know, this is a marvelous post. Because it discusses the words that I desperately wished exist but don’t, with bonus language geekery.
Also it made me happy.

Carnival of Aces 3: Community (masterpost) →
Sciatrix explains why community is important. Ace Student thanks the chat rooms. Norah talks about being in an MMO community. Elizabeth explains to what extent we are responsible to communities. Childfreeace learned something from an asexual community. Ace Eccentric had experiences in multiple ace communities. And lastly, I wrote about trying to build offline communities.
Charlie the Unicorn, Ace Detective: More thoughts... →
And during all of this hullabaloo, as it has become increasingly (painfully) obvious that we’re never all going to be able to come to a happy agreement and gather round a cake in peace*, it has similarly become increasingly obvious that here, as withmost arguments about anything, a lot of the problem is just misunderstanding bolstered by ignorance and liberally glazed with irrational rage and...
Asexual Visibility Opportunity (BBC Interview)
nethdugan:
So, the BBC are going to do a thing on sexuality and so on and on one segment they want to interview some asexuals. They contacted AVEN because, well, it’s the largest section and easiest to spot group of aces on the ‘net.
This could be a fantastic opportunity for visibility that we so rarely have.
Anyway, so some people have already volunteered to help out either in the background...

Physiological and Subjective Sexual Arousal in...
nextstepcake:
So I finally get back from my blissful but mosquito-ridden week of internet-free camping to find another big flame war going on in the asexuality tag. I guess it started with amazingatheist’s demand for the scientific study of asexuals and arousal?
Well, guess what guys. It’s already been done. And get this - instead of proving that we don’t exist, it actually serves to validate...
